Spartans Fall 9-6 at Air Force on Sunday

USAFA, Colo. - Dalton Bowling hit a two-run home run to lead San José State baseball (19-27, 14-13 MW) in a 9-6 loss at Air Force (21-25, 13-11 MW) Sunday afternoon in the final game from Erdle Field this weekend.

Charlie Jones hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for his fourth of the series to give the Falcons the lead, but the Spartans came back in the third inning thanks to Jeriah Lewis who hit a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the series.

In the fourth inning the Spartans put three across thanks to a Bowling RBI single and then the next batter Nathan Cadena grounded into a fielder's choice that scored two runs due to a Falcons error that gave the Spartans a 4-3 lead. Air Force would tie it 4-4 with a sacrifice fly, but the Spartans took the lead back in the top of the sixth inning when Bowling hit a two-run home run to make it a 6-4 game. The lead didn't last long as the Falcons put two across of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game and then Jay Thomason hit a three-run home run for the Falcons in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the game away.

  • Robert Hamchuk went 2-for-4 with his 13th double of the season and he extended his hit streak to a career-best 12 games plus scored a pair of runs
  • Hardy, Hamchuk, Bowling and Ja. Lewis all had a multi-hit game
  • LHP Ethan Ross started the game and went 6.2 IP while striking out eight and only allowing one walk
