Women's Cross Country Has WAC Championship Next

With four top-five team finishes in five meets this season, San Jose State University faces one of its sternest tests of the season at the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.

This year’s championship takes place Saturday, November 1, at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.

Recently, the Spartans were second at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational with three runners placing in the top-20. At the Gator Invitational hosted by San Francisco State earlier in the month, three different Spartans, led by team captain Jenna Hicks finished in the top-20 for San Jose State.

The Spartans seek to improve on its seventh-place finish at the 2007 WAC Championship. San Jose State’s best finish has been third as recently as 2006.

Utah State is the defending champion. All nine conference members are competing for 2008 top honors in the team and individual competitions.

Following the WAC Championship selected runners will compete at the NCAA West Regional Championship hosted by Stanford University on November 15.
