Marquez led the Spartans for the third consecutive race, finishing in 27th place. The freshman from
Erica Sahli set a personal season’s best time of 18:13.40, finishing in 32nd place. The Spartan co-captain has finished as one of the top-two SJSU runners in every race she has competed in since 2005.
Jenna Hicks finished in 34th place with a time of 18:18.04, a career best. The junior beat her 2006 WAC Championship time by over a minute. Nisha Richardson also set a career top-time of 18:23.44, beating her previous 5K best by over 20 seconds.
Overall, the SJSU placed five runners in the top-40. Seven of nine Spartan runners’ posted times under 19-minutes, while a total of five Spartan runners set new career-best 5K times.
Although listed at an elevation of 4,534, head coach, Augie Argabright, did not believe the Logan altitude affect his team, “I don’t think it was a factor, what played a bigger role was the level of competition, it was awfully tough this year”
Argabright said of his young team, “Most of our team is underclassmen. Of 18 runners this season, 14 should be back next year, so we’ll use this race as valuable experience for the future. We’re now going to look forward to the NCAA Regional in (
