Spartan runners to take part in rivalry series at Bronco Invitational

BELMONT, Calif.-----The rivalry series will continue on Saturday, Oct. 19, when the men and women’s cross country teams race against Santa Clara University. Both the men and the women will have their chance to beat Santa Clara and put points on the board for San Jose State.

The men:
The Spartans are coming off a second place finish at the Gator Invitational, beating Santa Clara, who finished third. Seniors Matt Heard and Will Crane and junior Jesse McLeod should lead the Spartans. This will be the last regular season race before the WAC Championships in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 2.

The women:
The Spartans placed second at the Gator Invitational in San Francisco on Oct. 6. Freshman Judy DeLong, sophomore Ashleigh Nebeker, and junior Lindsay Peters are all expected to have good finishes. The women also end their regular season of competition with this race, before heading to Dallas, Texas for the WAC Championships on Nov. 2.

Santa Clara:
The men’s last race was the San Francisco Invitational where they placed third. The women finished fifth at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore.

Santa Clara is leading the inaugural rivalry series with nine points.
