Women's cross country team runs in two races at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif.-----The San Jose State University women’s cross country team had two disappointing finishes Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Stanford Invitational. The Spartans placed 25th in the 6,000 meter race and 15th in the 4,000 meter race.

The Spartans had a team total of 673 in the 6,000 meter race. Stanford placed first with 50 points, followed by Duke (74) and UCLA (85). In the 4,000 meter race, San Jose State totaled 408 points to place 15th. Stanford also won this race with 75 points, while the University of Wisconsin finished second (83) and Purdue placed third, with 89 total points.

Freshman Judy DeLong and Sophomore Ashleigh Nebeker led the Spartans with their 75th and 105th place finishes, respectively. DeLong and Nebeker have been the top two finishers all season long for the Spartans. In the 4,000 meter race, senior Janette Najera was the top Spartan finisher, with a time of 16:50.

The Spartans will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Gator Invitational in San Francisco.
