Women's Cross Country team races to second place finish

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-----The San Jose State University women's cross
country team finished in second place at the Gator Invitational on Sunday,
October 6. Six girls placed in the top-20 to lead the Spartans to the second
place finish.

The Spartans scored a total of 56 points in the 6,000 meter race at Golden
Gate Park in San Francisco. Fresno State placed first with 28, and Sonoma
State came in third with a team total of 71 points.

Freshman Judy DeLong led the Spartans with her fifth place finish, with a
time of 23:17. Junior Lindsay Peters placed ninth with 23:47. Strong
showings were made by senior Kim Nebeker (12th), sophomores Anna Connelly
(14th) and Ashleigh Nebeker (16th) and junior Janet Yiu (20th).

"It was good competition today. Fresno is a tough team," said DeLong. "Our
spread is looking really good though. Our times are closer together and that
is exciting."

Head coach Augie Argabright commented on the improvement since the race at
Stanford last week. "We drastically improved from last week. I'm definitely
looking forward to racing Fresno again in two weeks."

The Spartans have their last regular season meet on Saturday, Oct. 19, at
the Santa Clara Invitational, before heading to the WAC Championships Nov. 2
in Dallas, Texas.
