Denver, Colo. - San Jose State University’s Tiffany Hall has been named the Western Athletic Conference women's cross country “Athlete of the Week” for her performance at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, October 14. The honor was Hall's second of 2006, and third of her Spartan career.
Hall, a senior from Vacaville, Calif., finished second in the 226-runner, 6K race that featured runners from 13 nationally ranked schools. With the time of 21:16.60, Hall eclipsed her previous best 6K time by over a minute.
In preparation for the NCAA Regional meets on November 11, the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., is considered a chance to see the top runners in the nation compete. After her strong performance, Spartan head coach, Augie Argabright, said, “It was an outstanding race for her. Finishing second really puts her and the university on the national map.”
Hall, a 2005 second-team All-WAC selection, has finished first or second in all four races she has competed in during the 2006 season, and has finished in the top-three of seven of her past 10 races.
The Spartans' next race will be the WAC Championship on Saturday, October 28, in Fresno, Calif. At the 2005 WAC Championship, Hall came in 12th and Erica Sahli 13th to lead the Spartans to a third-place finish.
