Jacob Mercep And Jennifer Sandoval Are September Student-Athletes Of The Month

Freshman men’s water polo player Jacob Mercep and sophomore women’s cross country runner Jennifer Sandoval are the September Spartan Foundation student-athletes of the month, presented by O’Connor Hospital.
 
Mercep set the San José State single-season record with 37 goals in just nine games played during September. He scored six or more goals in four straight games, three of which were against top-10 teams in the country. Mercep is currently seventh in the country in goals and points, and fifth nationally with 5.22 points per game. He was the Golden Coast Conference player of the week for his performance at the MPSF Invitational where he scored 22 goals.
 
Sandoval led the Spartan women’s cross country team to a pair of victories during September at the Fresno State Invitational and the Capital Cross Challenge. Sandoval was the individual winner while guiding the team to victory at the Fresno State Invitational. She was the runner-up finisher at the Capital Cross Challenge. Sandoval has now been the Spartans’ top finisher in all nine collegiate races which she has competed.
