Spartan Men, Women Place Second At USF Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO - Trevor Marca and Ana Martinez led the San Jose State University men's and women's cross country teams to second place finishes at the USF Invitational, held Saturday (Sept. 9) at Golden Gate Park.

Marca finished fourth overall in the men's 8K race, while Martinez placed third in the women's 6K race.

Both San Jose State squads scored 37 team points in the meet. The women's team finished just two points behind Sacramento State, while the men's team was 11 points back.

Spartan head coach Augie Argabright said Martinez "ran her usual outstanding race." He said that despite picking up a case of poison oak the week before at the Sacramento State meet, Marca "ran pretty well."

"We did pretty well," said Argabright about the meet. "I think we're getting better each week because we're getting in better shape."

The Spartans travel to Fresno, Calif. next Saturday for the Fresno State Invitational. The meet begins at 9:00 a.m. at Woodward Park.
