Women's cross country 3rd at USF Invitational; men, 8th

San Francisco, Calif.-----For the first time in three years, the San Jose State University women’s cross country team finished ahead of a Pacific-10 Conference member as the Spartans finished third in the 10-team USF Invitational.

San Jose State scored 98 points in the team scoring competition finishing behind defending NCAA champion Stanford and UCLA. Stanford had a perfect score of 15 while UCLA had a 53. Host USF was fourth with 105 followed by California at 118.

"It’s been three years since we beat a Pac-10 team. This was a super good team effort. We had a lot of ‘PR’s," said San Jose State cross country coach Augie Argabright

Ashleigh Nebeker was the top Spartan finisher placing 12th with a personal best of 18:10.2 over the 5,000-meter Golden Gate Park course. Three of the other four San Jose State scorers Erica Sahli, Tiffany Hall, and Marlene Elizade also posted personal bests for a 5,000-meter course.

The Spartan men’s team finished eighth out of eight teams with 202 points. Justin Chaudoin, who ran a personal best of 26:40.1 for an 8,000-meter course, was the top San Jose State individual finisher. Stanford also scored a perfect 15 to place first.
