Women's Cross Country Finishes Fifth At USF Invitational

San Francisco, Calif. The San Jose State University women’s cross country team opened the season in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Saturday, August 30.

The Spartans finished fifth as a team in the women’s 5K race at the 16th annual USF Invitational.

The Spartan placed four runners in the top-25, led by junior Nisha Richardson who clocked the team’s fastest time and placed 14th overall with an 18:51.80.  Jenna Hicks, a senior, ran the second-quickest time for the Spartans and finished 17th overall with a time of 18:53.20.

In the first race of their collegiate careers, Freshmen Beth Raymond and Kate Lambdin finished in 22nd and 23rd place respectively.  Raymond clocked at 19:02.70 and Lambdin a 19:04.60, which were good for third and fourth on the squad.

Junior Suzanne Hancock just missed a top-25 result with a 19:17.50.  Her time placed her 26th overall.

The Spartans return to action on September 13, when they compete in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
