First-Team All-Area Runner Joins Spartans

Jenay Jauregui, an All-Foothill League first-team selection and Los Angeles Daily News All-Area first team selection, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San Jose State women's cross country team beginning in fall of 2012.

Jauregui competed in both cross country and track and field at Saugus High School in Saugus, Calif. She set a personal record 5K time of 18:07 at the 2010 CIF Calif., Cross Country State Championship, good for tenth place out of 192 competitors. Jauregui returned to the state championship again in 2011 and finished in 20th out of 182 with a time of 18:26.5.

Between the two appearances at the state championships, Jauregui placed inside the top-ten at nine different meets over the course of the 2011 season with Saugus, including a runner-up finish in the 2011 Foothill League Championship.

Jauregui competed in the 800-meter, 1600-meter, 3200-meter and 4x1600-meter relay in track and field. Her career was highlighted by a 3/5/2011 dual-meet victory in the 3200-meter event (11:29.26) and a runner-up finish the same day in the 800-meter event (5:25.79).
