Women's Cross Country 8th in Season Opener

BREA, Calif.-----The San Jose State University women's cross country team placed 8th in the CS Fullerton Invitational at Carbon Canyon Regional Park on Saturday, Aug. 31.

The Spartans had a team total of 219, placing behind CS Fullerton with a total of 204. Stanford won the meet with a team total of 19. UCLA was second with 43 followed by UC Santa Barbara with 129.

"The competition was really strong, " noted Spartan head coach Augie Argabright. "Stanford is ranked No. 1 in the nation. I am happy with our performance, particularly with Ashleigh Nebeker."

Sophomore Ashleigh Nebeker was the top Spartan finisher, placing 37th,with a time of 19:16.8 on the 5,000 meter course. Freshman Judy DeLong, in her first race as a Spartan, came in 45th place with a time of 19:26.0.

The team returns to action, Saturday, September 7, at the University of California Invitational.
