Weather dampens men and women's cross country at WAC Championship

DALLAS, Texas-----The men and women’s cross country teams placed eighth and ninth, respectively at the WAC Championship meet on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The men placed eighth out of eight teams in the 8,000 meter course, with 222 points. SMU placed first with 30, UTEP scored 63 points and Tulsa earned third place with 71 points.

The women totaled 226 points to place ninth out of ten teams in the 5,000 meter race. Rice won the meet with 68 points, followed by Tulsa with 85 and Nevada with 87 points.

“It rained a lot and was very muddy,” stated head coach Augie Argabright. “Our runners are not used to the kind of conditions we saw today.”

Senior Matt Heard was the top finisher for the men, placing 34th, with a time of 26:48. For the women, senior Kim Nebeker finished with a time of 19:29, earning her 35th place.

The Spartans will head to Stanford to compete in the West Regional meet. “We were more comfortable with the course at Stanford, and have already raced there this year,” said Argabright. The competition will be Saturday, Nov. 16.
