SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-----The San Jose State University women's cross country team placed second at the USF Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14. Three Spartan runners placed in the top ten.

The Spartans placed second with a team total of 47 points, in the 2.8 mile race at Golden Gate Park. Sacramento State finished first with 38, and USF placed third with 90 points. California, who beat the Spartans last weekend at the California Invitational, placed fourth with 107.

"The girls did very well," said head coach Augie Argabright. "They placed second even with two of the top girls, Kimberly Nebeker and Lindsay Peters, not competing."

Sophomore Ashleigh Nebeker was the top Spartan finisher, placing fourth with a time of 17:10. Freshman Judy DeLong finished sixth, with 17:15, and Sophomore Anna Connelly was eighth with a time of 17:26. Argabright commented, "The improvement of Anna Connelly has been the surprise of the season. She has improved tremendously and is doing well for this team."

Nebeker was pleased with the results and was very happy with the team's performance. "A lot of the girls are stepping up to their roles on the team." She also commented on the fact that the team has yet to run against Fresno State. "We are really building up to race against them."

The Spartans will have their chance against Fresno State, when they return to action Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Stanford Invitational.
