Spartans Open MPSF Tournament Vs. Arizona State

Heading into the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Women’s Water Polo Championship Tournament on a high note, San Jose State University takes on Arizona State University at the Spieker Aquatics Complex on the University of California campus, Friday, April 26, at 12:45 p.m.

The Spartans (11-10), #9-nationally in the April 24 weekly national coaches’ poll, are the tournament’s sixth seed and are coming off a 15-7 MPSF win over CSU Bakersfield. #3-ranked Arizona State (25-5) has a seven-match winning streak including an 11-8 win over San Jose State on April 13. In that match, the Spartans led 5-1 after the first quarter and 6-4 at halftime.

The winner of the San Jose State-Arizona match will take on the winner of the USC-CSU Bakersfield contest on Saturday, April 27, at 12:45 p.m.

The overall winner of the three-day MPSF Women’s Water Polo Championship earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, May 10-12, in Boston. The MPSF, Western Water Polo, Metro Atlantic Athletic, Collegiate Water Polo and Big West Conference champions earn automatic bids and three at-large teams will compete in the three-day, single-elimination tournament.

“We’ve improved a lot over the last month. Hopefully, we can pick it up for our final tournament,” senior Anna Natalizio said after the April 20 win over CSU Bakersfield.
