Woodland, Calif.----- For the second time in 2013, San Jose State University freshman Rae Lekness was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) women’s water polo Kap7 Newcomer of the Week.
Lekness, from Calgary, Alberta, matched her single-match scoring high of six goals in the Spartans’ 15-7 MPSF win over CSU Bakersfield on April 20 to conclude regular season competition. Five of her six goals came in the final 9:43 of the contest after the Roadrunners closed the deficit to 9-7.
The San Jose State freshman was honored as the MPSF Kap7 Newcomer of the Week at the beginning of the season following the University of Michigan Kick-Off on January 19 & 20. She scored 11 goals in four matches.
The 2-Meter player's other six-goal match came in a 9-4 non-conference win over Michigan in San Jose on January 26. She leads the Spartans in scoring with 49 goals for the season.
Lekness and the San Jose State team will take on #3-ranked Arizona State, Friday, April 26, at 12:45 p.m., in the first round of the MPSF Championship tournament hosted by the University of California.
