For its final regular season match, San Jose State University is hosting number-one ranked University of Southern California in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo action, Friday, April 23. The match-up between the number-one and number-six ranked teams nationally at the Aquatics Center on the San Jose State campus begins at 4:00 p.m.
San Jose State (16-11, 2-4 MPSF) is coming off a 6-5 loss to #5-ranked Hawaii on April 17. The Spartans had a chance in their final offensive possession to send the contest into overtime, but their final shot hit the crossbar.
USC (21-1, 5-0 MPSF) has won 19 in a row and dispatched its two most recent opponents, #9-Arizona State and #4-UCLA, by identical 14-5 scores.
The two teams, who retained their position in the April 21 national coaches' poll, are meeting for the third time this season. At the Stanford Invitational, the Trojans posted a 13-8 win and topped the Spartans, 15-5, in March at the UC Irvine Invitational.
The April 23 contest also marks the final home match for San Jose State seniors Kathryn Hannum, Bridget McKee and Kelsi Okuda. Hannum is one of the Spartans' two team captains this season. McKee, currently, is tied for third on the university's career goal scoring with 155. Okuda is a three-time San Jose State University Scholar-Athlete.
There is no admission charge to the Aquatics Center for the San Jose State-USC match.
