Despite back-to-back 11-8 loss to #5-California and #3-Arizona State, the San Jose State University women’s water polo team moved up one spot to ninth in the April 17 Collegiate Water Polo Association weekly coaches’ poll.
To conclude the regular season, the ninth-ranked Spartans (10-10, 0-5 MPSF) seek their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) victory hosting unranked CSU Bakersfield (12-21, 0-5 MPSF), Saturday, April 20, in a 12:00 p.m. match at The Aquatics Center on the San Jose State University campus.
The regular season finale will be the final home match for San Jose State seniors Kimber Methvin, Anna Natalizio and Morgan Thomas. The trio of Spartans will be honored in pregame ceremonies.
Methvin is in her second season as a team captain. She is a three-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and a two-time MPSF All-Academic selection.
Natalizio is 14th on the San Jose State career goal-scoring list. The 2012 honorable mention All-America had her best season offensively last season tying for the team lead with 60 goals.
Thomas is a 2013 San Jose State University Dean’s Scholar for achieving a 3.65 or higher grade point average in at least two of the three previous semesters prior to Spring 2013. The fourth-year Spartan is a justice studies major.
