#10-Spartans Water Polo Heads To #3-Arizona State

To close out its road trips for 2013, #10-ranked San Jose State faces another stern test when the Spartans take on #3-ranked Arizona State, Saturday, April 13, in a 12:00 p.m. (MST) Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women’s water polo match.

The Spartans (10-9, 0-4 MPSF) are coming off one of their best performances of the season, an 11-8 loss to #5-California. The two teams were tied at 8-8 until the Golden Bears scored the go-ahead goal with 5:00 left in the match.

San Jose State still has the highest scoring freshman in the demanding MPSF. Rae Lekness is fifth in the conference in scoring averaging 2.26 goals a match.

The Sun Devils (24-5, 3-2 MPSF) are on their second six-game winning streak in the last two months. Arizona State seniors Alicia Brightwell and Shannon Haas are the MPSF’s number two and three scorers. Arizona State goalkeeper E.B. Keeve leads the MPSF in saves per match at 12.04.

The two teams are meeting for the first time this season.

Following the MPSF match, San Jose State will conclude its weekend trip to Tempe with exhibition matches against the Old Mission Bay Club, the New York Athletic Club and the WTD Oakland club teams.
