Adama, Higlett Lead Water Polo to 13-6 Victory

Long Beach, Calif.—Goalie Kendra Adama tallied 10 saves and Alexis Higlett scored a team-high four goals to lead the ninth-ranked San Jose State women’s water polo team to a 13-6 win at Long Beach State Friday afternoon.

Adama came up big in the first quarter with five of her 10 saves and made one save in the second quarter and two saves in the third and fourth quarters. Higlett scored one goal in the first and four periods and two goals in the second quarter.

The Spartans jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter as Juliet Moss scored twice for San Jose State and Higlett and Tanya Torres each had one goal. Higlett then scored her two goals in the second period as the team held Long Beach State scoreless to take an 8-1 lead at halftime. Bridgett McKee and Moss scored the other two Spartan goals.

Long Beach State rallied in the third quarter and scored five goals to get within four goals at 10-6. Beth Harberts and Hazlett scored for the Spartans. San Jose State then held the 49ers scoreless in the fourth quarter as Torres scored twice and Higlett recorded one goal in the period for the 13-6 victory.

San Jose State improves to 11-9 overall and 4-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while Long Beach State falls to 7-13 overall and 3-6 in the MPSF. The Spartans now travel to #4 UC Irvine for a conference match on Saturday beginning at noon.
