Playing its second top-five ranked team in six days, #8-ranked San Jose State University hosts #3-University of Southern California in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) women's water polo match, Friday, April 6.
The Spartans' final home and MPSF match of the season starts at 1:00 p.m. in The Aquatics Center on the San Jose State campus.
Head coach Lou Tully's team (14-9, 2-4 MPSF) has won seven of its last nine. Only a pair of two-goal losses at #1-UCLA and to #4-Arizona State interrupted the Spartans' recent surge up the polls. San Jose State dropped to #12 at the beginning of March, but wins at #17-Hawaii and at home last week against #8-San Diego State helped the Spartans regain a spot in the top-10.
USC (17-3, 4-1 MPSF) has a six-match winning streak and victories in seven of its last eight. The only recent blemish is a one-goal loss to UCLA to open MPSF action at the beginning of March. The Trojans are one of the three conference teams averaging at least 11 goals a match. Sophomore Kaleigh Gilchrist leads USC in scoring with 34 goals.
San Jose State's top scorer during its recent burst is junior Anna Natalizio who has a nine-match multi-goal streak on the line. She is ninth in the MPSF in scoring with 43 tallies in 23 matches. Senior Dani Curran remains the Spartans' scoring leader with 45 goals.
