Moss Sets School Record In Win At Northridge

Northridge, Calif.-----Juliet Moss set a San Jose State single-game scoring record with seven goals as the Spartans defeated Cal State Northridge, 14-6, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women’s water polo match.

Moss, a junior from San Jose, is one of three players to score six goals in a game for San Jose State (12-10, 4-5 MPSF) and did twice last season. With a team-leading 43 goals for the season, her record-setting score came at the 4:22 mark of the fourth quarter and was the capper to her three successive goals in 1:18.

Sophomore Bridget McKee, with four tallies, and senior Beth Harberts, with three, accounted for the remainder of the Spartans’ scoring in San Jose State’s second win in a row.

“Juliet scored on a number of power play opportunities and Beth had a tremendous game setting up Juliet and scoring herself. Northridge has a good goalie, but Beth fired some absolute rockets. It was real good shooting on her part,” said San Jose State head coach Lou Tully, who also cited the team’s performance on the power play as one of the keys to victory.

“We had seven (power play 6-on-5) opportunities and scored on five of them. They had 10 and only scored once. The girls did a great job on the power play.

“I was really pleased with the way we played today. This is a tough place to play. They have a shorter pool that affects your counter attack. We had to make some adjustments in the first quarter and things went well after that.”

San Jose State goalkeeper Kendra Adama was credited with eight saves. Jeesica Coy led Cal State Northridge (10-15, 1-8 MPSF) in scoring with three goals.

The Spartans, ranked ninth nationally, conclude their weekend road trip in Los Angeles, Sunday, April 6, facing #3-ranked University of Southern California. Match time is noon.
