Woodland, Calif.-----Freshman Timi Molnar, one of two San Jose State University players to score three goals in a 10-8 victory over #8-ranked Arizona State in a women's water polo match, is the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Newcomer of the Week for the week ending March 26.
Molnar's first two goals gave the Spartans one-goal leads in the second and third quarters and her final score was the game-winner with 5:40 left in the fourth quarter. The three-goal "hat trick" was her eighth of the season and helped San Jose State (16-8, 2-2 MPSF) tie a school record with its ninth consecutive victory.
The Budapest, Hungary native upped her season scoring total to 50 goals in the Arizona State win. She heads into this week's action second in the MPSF in goal scoring behind teammate Adriana Vogt who has 58 goals. Molnar is just the second freshman in school history to score 50 or more goals in a season.
San Jose State can set a new school record for consecutive victories in women's water polo Saturday, April 2, when it hosts UCLA (18-5, 1-3 MPSF) in the final regular-season home match. Action at The Aquatics Center begins at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).
