#7 Water Polo Makes It Five In A Row With Sweep

San Jose, Calif. - Adriana Vogt and Dani Curran were goal scoring machines for the #7 Spartans (13-8) in their successful non-conference sweep of #16 Indiana and Harvard at the Aquatics Center. The Spartan winning streak now sits at five in a row heading into Saturday's match against #6 Arizona State.

In the Indiana match, the Spartans never led in the first three quarters and trailed 9-7 in the fourth before going on a five-goal run to end the game 12-9. Curran and Vogt both scored three goals, including the final four goals of the contest. Spartan goalie Megan Minson was solid between the pipes registering 7 saves, and held Indiana (12-6) scoreless in the final six minutes of the match.

"We had a really slow start against Indiana and made some mistakes. We figured things out as the game continued and we picked up our tempo," said Spartan head coach Lou Tully.

The Spartans were on fire late, scoring nine second half goals, including three from Vogt, two from Curran and Bridget McKee and one from both Kathryn Hannum and Ally Waasted

In the second game of the day, Harvard (8-6) scored the first two goals, but was overpowered from there, losing 13-7.  Three Spartans combined for nine of the team's 13 goals, including hat tricks from Curran, Vogt, and Allie Stewart.  McKee, Waasted, Natalie Jennings, and Anna Natalizio all chipped in one goal apiece.

"We came out slow again but played with much more control than the Indiana match. We have got to figure out a way to come out firing in these games," said the 12th year head coach.

With the six goal performances by Vogt and Curran, they now sit first and second on the team respectively.  Vogt has 37 goals and Curran has 27.  McKee is third with 25 goals.

Next up for the Spartans is a Saturday home test against #6 Arizona State at the Aquatics Center at Noon.
