#10-Spartans Take On #1-USC

            For the second time in a week and the second time this season, the San Jose State University women's water polo team takes on a top-ranked opponent on the road when the#10-ranked Spartans face #1-University of Southern California. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center is Friday, March 15, at 5:00 p.m.

            San Jose State (8-6, 0-1 MPSF) opened conference play with a 15-4 loss at #2-Stanford on March 9. The match with USC will be the second time this season the Spartans are playing the #1-team nationally. Stanford was ranked number-one in the Collegiate Water Polo Association coaches' poll when San Jose State and the Cardinal met on February 2.

            The Trojans (14-0, 2-0 MPSF) have the MPSF's top scorer in sophomore Monica Vavic who has a 3.07 goals per match average and 43 goals.

            San Jose State's Rae Lekness, who scored twice in the March 9 loss at Stanford, is the MPSF's highest scoring freshman at 2.36 goals per match and 33 scores. The freshman ranks fourth in the MPSF going into this weekend's action.
