Cambridge, Mass.-----Dani Curran scored six times and Kelly Stewart poured in a game winner with six seconds to go as San Jose State posted wins over Iona and #18-Princeton at the Harvard Invitational.
The Spartans, 12th ranked nationally, topped Iona, 12-9, and ended Princeton's 16-match winning streak dating back to the 2011 season with a 13-12 triumph. The two victories give San Jose State (11-7) a four-match winning streak and three wins at the Harvard Invitational with one contest remaining against Brown on March 4.
Stewart's only goal of the nightcap was a 6-on-5 power play shot from six meters. It was her second score of the day.
"We ran a play we've been working on. In this situation, Kelly Stewart did an absolute great job," said San Jose State coach Lou Tully.
Curran continued to find the back of the cage with regualrity. She has 20 scores in her last six matches after scoring three goals in each contest.
Like the win over Harvard to open the Invitational, the Spartans spread their attack throughout the lineup with seven different players scoring. Anna Natalizio and Katie Buzzetta each scored four times on the day.
Maddie Reardon played the entire way in goal for San Jose State. She was credited with a single-match personal best 14 saves in the Iona win and seven in the nightcap versus Princeton.
"I was really pleased with how the team hung in there with Princeton. We never had a breather. Every possesion was important. Every defensive stop was important," added the Spartans' coach about ending Princeton's winning streak.
