#8-Water Polo Heads To #1-Stanford

San Jose State University gets its first opportunity of the season to face the top-ranked women’s water polo team when the Spartans take on Stanford in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, Saturday, February 28. Match time is 1:00 p.m. at the Avery Aquatic Center on the Stanford University campus.

The two teams met recently in second-round action at the UC Irvine Invitational on February 21. Stanford (11-1, 1-0 MPSF) posted a 13-7 win over San Jose State (8-8, 1-1 MPSF) and went on to capture the UC Irvine Invitational team championship.

San Jose State finished eighth in the 16-team UC Irvine Invitational and remained eighth in the national poll for the second week in a row. The Spartans have knocked off three top-10 ranked squads in 2009 with more than half a season remaining. Stanford moved up to the top spot ahead of the University of Southern California.

Three San Jose State players, freshman Dani Curran, senior Juliet Moss and junior Bridget McKee, have scored at least 20 goals this season. Curran leads the Spartans with 33 and ranks ninth in the conference in goal scoring. Moss, with 27, and McKee, with 21, round out the top-three scorers on the team.
