Water Polo Moves Up In Rankings; Hosts Cal

San Jose State University, one of two undefeated teams in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action after one week, moved up from tenth to a tie for seventh in the February 11 Collegiate Water Polo Association national poll.

The Spartans (7-4, 1-0 MPSF) posted wins last week against then-#4 Hawaii, 10-8 in overtime, in the conference opener for both teams and then-#7 Arizona State, 11-6, in the fifth-place game of the Stanford Invitational.

San Jose State plays only once this week hosting #6 California (12-0, 0-0 MPSF). Match time at the Aquatics Center on the San Jose State campus is 12:00 p.m.

“That’s a huge game. We have some things we have to work on to prepare for them and be ready for a big game next weekend,” said San Jose State head coach Lou Tully.

“We want better ball control and shot selection. We want to get the proper shot at the proper time. Sometimes, we tend to rush things or not read the goalie well. We have to make a better read and understand where we have to shoot the ball.”

There is no admission charge for the San Jose State-Cal women’s water polo match.
