Water Polo WIn Streak Stopped At Stanford Invite

Stanford, Calif.-----#2-ranked University of Southern California and #6-ranked University of Michigan limited #7-San Jose State University to six goals in each match handing the Spartans their first two losses of the season on the first day of the Stanford Invitational women's water polo tournament.

USC (2-1) topped #7-ranked San Jose State, 13-6. Michigan upended the Spartans, 12-6.

Dani Curran and Ally Waasted each scored three goals in San Jose State's two matches. Adriana Vogt was the only other Spartan to score in each match.

"We played okay against USC. In the Michigan match, we didn't play well at all," said San Jose State coach Lou Tully, who was disappointed that the Spartans committed nine first-quarter turnovers. "(Against Michigan), we gave up some early goals on man-up situations and that got them started. We didn't execute and we didn't react quickly enough."

Nadia Dan led USC in scoring with four goals and 2009 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year Kami Craig found the net three times for the Trojans.

San Jose State goalkeepers Meagan Minson and Lauren Lewis each played a complete match and had a busy day. Minson made nine saves against USC and Lewis, seven against Michigan.

The Spartans face #1-ranked Stanford, Sunday, February 6, at 8:00 a.m. and will play either in the seventh-place match at 12:45 p.m. or the fifth-place contest at 2:00 p.m. in the Avery Aquatics Complex on the Stanford University campus.
