Playing without versatile senior starter Geraldine Hazlett, the women's water polo team drops it first decision of the year, 9-5 against #5 Cal in Berkeley Saturday afternoon. The Spartans are now 4-1 on the season and face Pacific at home Sunday.
"We knew it was going to be a physical game, the toughest of the season so far," said head coach Lou Tully. "We just didn't respond to it. We were too concerned with kickouts or no-calls instead of picking up our game and playing tougher."
Juliet Moss led the Spartan attack with two goals. Adrianna Vogt, Tanya Torres and Bridget McKee added solo goals as well. Senior goalkeeper Kendra Adama had five saves. Hazlett sat out the game with a back injury.
"We just did some dumb stuff today. And obviously I'm disappointed with the outcome," Tully said. "At the same time it is all fixable and we'll have to start fixing tomorrow against Pacific."
