Water Polo Takes Two At Nor-Cal Open

Santa Clara, Calif.-----Juliet Moss and Allie Stewart each scored six goals in two matches leading San Jose State University to wins over Santa Clara University, 17-7, and Cal State Monterey Bay, 17-10, in first-day action at the Nor-Cal Open women’s water polo tournament.

Moss, a senior, found the net five times for the tenth-ranked Spartans (4-1) in the win over Santa Clara and once in the first period against Cal State Monterey Bay. Stewart, a freshman, scored four times in the opener and twice in the second game of the day. Freshman Dani Curran was San Jose State’s top scorer in the Cal State Monterey Bay victory with four goals.

“Our girls played well. We had good ball movement. Our passing was better. We showd some improvement over last week,” said San Jose State head coach Lou Tully. “I’m pleased with our freshmen. They’re doing a good job,” added Tully, who has 11 freshmen on the 21-player roster. “I would have liked to see us play stronger defense, but all in all, I’m happy with the way things are going.”
