Woodland, Calif.-----The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation named San Jose State University's Allie Stewart its women's water polo Player of the Week for a record-setting performance in matches ending January 23.
Stewart, a junior from Sacramento, Calif. (St. Francis HS), scored a San Jose State single-match record eight goals in a 15-9 win over #14-Hartwick. The 2-meter specialist broke the previous school record of seven goals set twice by former All-American Juliet Moss.
Stewart was the Spartans' top scorer with 12 goals in the two-day, four-match University of Michigan Kick-Off tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich. She scored at least once in each of San Jose State's four matches.
Her 12 goals after the first week of 2011 are just one shy of her 2010 season total of 13.
Stewart and her San Jose State teammates are in action next hosting the six-team Spartan Invitational, January 29 and 30 at The Aquatics Center, located near 8th and San Salvador streets on the San Jose State University campus.
