Ann Arbor, Mich.-----Adriana Vogt scored four goals and Megan Lane added a single-game career high three as San Jose State University easily defeated UC San Diego in its final match of the Michigan Kick-Off women's water polo tournament.
The sixth-ranked Spartans (3-0) raced out to a 7-1 first-quarter lead and were never threatened the rest of the way by UC San Diego (0-3).
Anna Natalizio, Dani Curran and Bridget McKee each scored twice. McKee finished the three-match weekend with a team-high nine scores.
"I'm pleased with where we are right now. I felt our players did a nice job. To get three wins on the road is frosting on the cake," said San Jose State coach Lou Tully after the match.
Vogt, a junior, became the 12th player in San Jose State history to reach the 100 career-goal mark with her final score of the match. Her 100th score came with 37 seconds left in the third quarter.
San Jose State completed the Michigan Kick-Off as the only squad in the seven-team tournament to go undefeated. #3-UCLA, #7-San Diego State and #10-Michigan, the host, each lost a match.
The Spartans return to action, January 30, in the two-day NorCal Cup hosted by the University of California. San Jose State will face Santa Clara and Cal State Monterey Bay in first-day action and UC Davis and Sonoma State on January 31.
