#9-Spartans Host #10-Michigan In Home Opener

For the second time in seven days, #9-San Jose State University will take on the University of Michigan in the Spartans' women's water polo home opener. The January 26 non-conference match takes place at The Aquatics Center on the San Jose State campus starting at noon.

The two teams faced each other on January 20 with the Spartans defeating the Wolverines, 9-6, in the two-day Michigan Kick-Off tournament. San Jose State freshman Rae Lekness led all players in scoring with six goals. Lekness was on target for the Spartans' last six scores of the match from the second quarter until the final horn.

"We prepared ourselves mentally for it a lot. We were on the players we were supposed to be on and we knew to look for when they came in," said goalkeeper Maddie Reardon, who was credited with nine saves in the Michigan win.

San Jose State (3-1), which remained ninth in the Collegiate Water Polo Association national coaches' poll, also is going after its third consecutive victory. After beating Michigan, the Spartans concluded play in the Michigan Kick-Off with a decisive 16-8 non-conference triumph over Colorado State.

Michigan (1-3) posted its first victory of the season, 15-9 over Colorado State, to open the Michigan Kick-Off.

There is no admission charge to watch the match. Paid parking is available one block away in the University's 7th Street Garage.
