A. Stewart Sets Scoring Record; Spartans Leave Michigan 2-2

Ann Arbor, Mich.-----Allie Stewart's set a single-match scoring record eight goals in a 15-9 win to highlight the Spartans' final day's action in the Michigan Kick-Off women's water polo tournament.

The Spartans, ranked seventh in the national preseason coaches' poll, completed their four matches with a 2-2 record after losing to #6-ranked Loyola Marymount, 13-11. San Jose State scored a season-high six goals in the final quarter to make the match close.

Stewart's eight goals were one more than the previous record of seven set by Juliet Moss twice, once in 2007 and again in 2008. The Spartans co-captain scored in all four matches, a first for the Sacramento, Calif. (St. Francis HS) native at the major college level, and finished the tournament as San Jose State's top scorer with 12 goals. Stewart's previous single-match best was a five-goal performance against Cal State San Bernardino in the 2009 Bronco Invitatiional.

Freshman Timi Molnar and Ally Waasted were the Spartans' top scorers in the Loyola Marymount match with three goals each. Molnar finished the day with five scores and seven for the four matches.

Junior Meagan Minson played all four matches in goal for San Jose State. She was credited with 13 saves in the Hartwick victory and eight against Loyola Marymount.

The Spartans return to action opening their home season hosting the Spartan Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, January 29 and 30. Cal, UC Davis, Cal State Monterey Bay, Pacific and Santa Clara are competing. Six matches each day begin at 8:30 a.m. at The Aquatics Center.
