With five returning starters from a 20-win team a year ago, the 2010 San Jose State University women's water polo team starts its season at the Michigan Kick-Off hosted by the University of Michigan.
Dates of this year's tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., are Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 24. The Spartans are playing in the tournament for the third consecutive year. Seven teams including Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents UCLA and San Diego State are in this year's tournament.
San Jose State faces Colorado State and #19-Indiana on January 23 and concludes action on January 24 against UC San Diego. The Spartans are ranked sixth in the national preseason coaches poll.
Head coach Lou Tully plans to start sophomore Meagan Minson in goal. Seniors Kathryn Hannum and Bridget McKee, junior Adriana Vogt, sophomores Dani Curran and Janessa Schmidbauer and freshman Anna Natalizio are the likely starting field players for the Spartans. McKee, Vogt and Curran all scored 45 or more goals last season for San Jose State.
"We're looking forward to starting our season. We've played against each other enough. Now, it's time to face some competition," said Lou Tully, the program's only head coach. "We haven't seen Colorado State. We go against Indiana twice this season. UC San Diego has some new faces. So, it should be interesting."
