Volleyball Finishes WAC Season at New Mexico State

Las Cruces, N.M.The San Jose State volleyball team finished its portion of the Western Athletic Conference schedule at New Mexico State Saturday night. The Spartans fell to the conference’s co-regular season champion, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.

Nia Freeman led the Spartans with 10 kills on 20 attempts with just three errors. She hit .350 for the match and added two blocks, one solo and one assist, and a dig.

“Nia did very nicely for us tonight on the right side,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. “She did a nice job blocking and attacking tonight, especially since we could not capitalize offensively on the left side.”

Other contributors included Kelly Crow who had seven kills and six digs. Kylie Miraldi hit .477 with six kills on 12 attempts and only one error and added two block assists and two digs. Emily Burke recorded 26 assists, six digs and two blocks, one solo and one assist. Kristal Tsukano recorded six digs and enters the WAC Tournament with 999 career digs, one shy of the 1,000 plateau and becoming the sixth player in school history to accomplish this feat.

San Jose State is now 12-16 overall and 7-9 in the WAC. The Spartans enter the WAC Tournament as the fifth seed and will play fourth seed Utah State Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. HST (4:30 p.m. PST). All matches will be played in Hawaii at the Stan Sheriff Center. Live video streaming will be available for a fee at WAC.tv.
