San Jose-Mary Alice O'Reilly and Hanah Blume recorded double-digit kills and helped lead the San Jose State volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of CSU Bakersfield Tuesday night at Spartan Gym.
O'Reilly, the reigning Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, led the team with 13 kills and hit .476 with 21 attempts and only three errors. Blume had 10 kills on 27 attempts and added two blocks - one solo and one assist.
Alex Akana led all blockers Tuesday night with six block assists. She now has 280 for her career and needs just two more to move into ninth place all-time at San Jose State. Akana hit .455 for the match with seven kills on 11 attempts and just two errors.
Others contributing to the win included Michaela Leonard with 35 assists, Samantha O'Connell with a team-best three aces, five kills and seven digs, Krista Miller with four kills, six digs and four blocks, and Kiely Pieper with 10 digs.
"I am pleased with us winning in three sets tonight," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "We stayed focused in this non-conference match. This team is playing with a lot of confidence right now and is believes they can win."
San Jose State finishes the WAC schedule this Thursday with a home match against UTSA. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Spartan Gym. Three Spartan seniors - Akana, Miller and Katie Turner will be honored prior to the match.
