Volleyball Swept At Denver

Denver, Colo.-The San Jose State volleyball team fell at Denver 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20) Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference match.

The Spartans recorded just 32 kills on 108 swings but had 23 errors to hit .083 for the match.

Mary Alice O'Reilly and Krista Miller each had nine kills in the match to lead the team, but O'Reilly was the only player who hit .275 or better (.286, 9-3-21).  Hanah Blume added five kills, while Samantha O'Connell and Alex Akana each had four kills.

"We didn't play very well today," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo.  "We had too many hitting errors to be successful.  We are disappointed with our effort even though we were fighting some illnesses today.  We know we can play better."

Michaela Leonard had 28 assists in the match, while O'Connell and Kiley Pieper led the team with eight digs each.  Akana and O'Reilly each had three blocks to lead San Jose State.

San Jose State is now 12-14 overall and 8-8 in the WAC.  The Spartans finished the regular season portion of the road schedule with this match and play the final three matches at home.  The team next plays against WAC-leader Utah State on Saturday, November 10, at 7 p.m.  San Jose State then hosts CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, November 13, and UTSA on Thursday, November 15.  All matches take place inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.

"We are looking forward to coming home for our final three matches before the WAC Tournament.  We have two important conference matches still left on our schedule as well as a match with CSU Bakersfield," stated Crespo.
