Miraldi led the Spartans in kills with 14 on 28 attempts and no hitting errors to record a .500 hitting percentage. She added four digs, two service aces (the first of her career) and a block assist.
The Spartans fought hard in the first set for the win. The team jumped out to an early 4-1 lead on a service ace by Taylor Japhet. Fresno State slowly clawed its way back and took a 15-11 lead and led by seven at 23-16. San Jose State then used a 7-0 run to get within one at 23-22. The teams then tied the score four times before two Bulldog hitting errors gave San Jose State the first set a 29-27.
San Jose State made changes to the lineup for the match including moving Kristal Tsukano back to libero where she ahs started for the Spartans this past two years. She led the team with 12 digs and added an assist. Sarah McAtee started for the Spartans and recorded a career-best eight kills and three block assists. Krista Miller added seven kills and a season-high five digs.
"We played very well tonight, and it was nice to see us fight back to win the first set" said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. "We made some major lineup changes tonight and moved Kristal back to libero. Kylie had a nice match in the middle with no hitting errors, and Sarah and Krista and did a nice job hitting tonight."
Others contributed included Taylor Japhet with five kills, 10 digs and two service aces. Alex Akana led the team in blocks with four and added seven kills and five digs. Caitlin Andrade recorded 29 assists, nine digs and two kills, while Asia Casino added nine assists and seven digs.
San Jose State returns home for three matches next week. The Spartans start the week facing #3 Hawaii Monday night, followed by Utah State on Thursday and Nevada on Saturday. All three matches begin at 7 p.m., inside of Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets. Tickets are available at the door one hour prior to the start of the match.
