Crow Serves Up Aces in Victory at Fresno State

Fresno, Calif.Kelly Crow served tough for San Jose State, and four Spartans recorded 10 or more kills as the San Jose State volleyball team won at Fresno State, 30-20, 25-30, 30-22, 30-18, Thursday evening in a Western Athletic Conference match.

 

The Spartans served eight aces for the match, led by Crow who recorded a career-best six service aces.  Her six aces are the most for a Spartan player since the 2004 season when Brooke Herald served six against Providence on September 11.

 

“We served well tonight, especially in game four,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo.  “Kelly served solidly for us and located her serve very well.  She put pressure on the other team’s offense which helped our blockers.”

 

Keri Anglin led all Spartan hitters with 14 kills.  Colleen Burke and Niki Clement each recorded 12 kills, while Jennifer Senftleben added 10 kills.  Anglin led the Spartans in blocking with three, while Burke added two blocks. Senftleben led the team in hitting with a .409 percentage (10-1-22), and Burke hit .357 (12-2-28).

 

Five Spartans recorded 10 or more digs in the match including two with 20 or more digs.  Clement led the team with 21 digs, followed by Emily Burke with a career-best 20 digs.   Crow tied her career-high with 19 digs.  Kristal Tsukano contributed 13 digs, while Courtney Zellmer had 10 digs in the win.

 

Emily Burke had her 14th double-double of the season with 58 assists and 20 digs, while Niki Clement recorded her 13th double-double with 12 kills and 21 digs.

 

Brianna Amian added eight kills, an assist and a block.  Offensively, Crow came of the bench and recorded nine kills.

 

“We played really nice tonight,” said Crespo.  “It is nice to see us play on the road like we do at home.  Emily did a nice job running our offense, and Brianna had a nice offensive night and took the pressure off of our outside hitters.”

 

San Jose State improves to 13-12 overall and 7-7 in the WAC, while Fresno State falls to 5-20 overall and 3-10 in the WAC.  The Spartans travel to Nevada for a match this Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
