Japhet's Second Double-Double At Louisiana Tech

Ruston, La.-Taylor Japhet recorded her second double-double of the season, but the San Jose State volleyball team fell in four sets at Louisiana Tech, 25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21, Thursday night.

Japhet led the Spartans in kills with 12 and added 14 digs for her double-double. She also had two service aces in the match.

"Taylor had a nice match for us tonight," said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. "She did a nice job passing, and it was to see her get another double-double."

The Spartans outdug the Lady Techsters in the match, 75-60. Besides Taylor's 14 digs, three other Spartans recorded double-digit digs. Kristal Tsukano led the team with 15 digs, followed by Courtney Zellmer and Thao Pham each with 14 digs.

Offensively, Kylie Miraldi and Alex Akana each recorded nine kills. Miraldi added two blocks and three digs, while Akana had one block, one ace and four digs. Tsukano had seven kills, while Krista Miller contributed three.

Caitlin Andrade and Asia Casino split time at setter for much of the match. Andrade had her double-double streak end at six matches as she had 23 assists and three digs. Casino added 14 assists, three digs and an ace.

"This is a disappointing loss for us," said Crespo. "Our passing wasn't as effective as past matches, and we could not get into an offensive rhythm with our middles tonight."

San Jose State continues this road trip with a match Saturday afternoon at New Mexico State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. MDT/12 p.m. CDT. Live stats are available at www.nmstatesports.com as well as live audio for the match.
