Senftleben's Best Hitting Match of Season Propels Spartan Victory

San JoseJennifer Senftleben led all hitters with 20 kills to propel the San Jose State volleyball team to a 30-27, 30-19, 30-26, victory over Fresno State Monday evening at Spartan Gym in a Western Athletic Conference match.

Senftleben hit a season-best .514 with only two hitting errors in 35 attempts. Her 20 kills marked the 22nd time in her career that she recorded 20 or more kills in a match. Senftleben four digs in the win.

“Jen had a phenomenal match for us tonight,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. “After missing most of the last two matches for us, she had a solid match for us offensively.”

For the ninth time this season, Niki Clement recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. She added a block assist in the win.

Five players recorded 10 or more digs in the match. Kelly Crow tied her career-best with a team-high 15 digs. Clement had 12 digs, followed by Emily Burke with 11 and Courtney Zellmer and Kristal Tsukano each with 10.

“We are playing good defense right now and that showed in the number of people with 10 or more digs,” said Crespo. “We served and passed very nicely during the match, and I am very proud of this team.”

Emily Burke had her 11th double-double of the season with 51 assists and 11 digs. She added a season-best three blocks. Colleen Burke added eight kills, six digs, three blocks, two assists and two service aces.

Nia Freeman added five kills, one dig and one block, while Keri Anglin had seven kills, three blocks (one solo, two assists), two digs and a service ace.

“This win was very positive for us. We have gained confidence as a team and know we can play against our opponents,” stated Crespo.

San Jose State improves to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in the WAC, while Fresno State is now 5-17 overall and 3-8 in the WAC. The Spartans return home this Thursday evening with a conference match against Boise State. First serve is set for 7 p.m., at Spartan Gym.
