San JoseBrianna Amian recorded her second double-double of the season and had a career-high six service aces as the San Jose State volleyball team defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-22, Saturday evening in a non-conference match at Spartan Gym.
Amian led the team with 14 kills and 10 digs. Her six services are the highest number recorded in a match by a Spartan player this season.
“Brianna had good production this evening for us,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo. “She was very effective for us all the way around the rotation.”
Kelly Crow added 13 kills and nine digs. She recorded career-bests of two solo blocks, three block assists and five total blocks. Crow hit .265 for the match and added two assists.
Colleen Burke led the team in blocking as she tied her season-high with six blocks. She is eighth all-time at San Jose State in block assists with 259 and ninth in total blocks with 278. Burke added seven kills and tied her career-best with nine digs.
Kylie Miraldi added six kills on 11 attempts and no hitting errors with a .545 hitting percentage. She added four blocks and a dig. Nia Freeman also had six kills, four blocks and two digs.
Emily Burke had her third double-double of the year with 41 assists and 10 digs. She added four kills, one ace and one block assist. Kristal Tsukano added 14 digs, two assists, one kill and a service ace. Courtney Zellmer had six digs.
In set one, the two teams had six lead changes and 17 ties. The Spartans took the lead for good at 24-23 on a Miraldi kill and won the set on a Roadrunner hitting error.
In the second set, San Jose State led 24-21, but Kayla Williamson served the final five points for Cal State Bakersfield to give the Roadrunners the 26-24 win.
San Jose State took control of the third set at 2-1 on a Crow kill and did not lose the lead the rest of the set. Colleen Burke recorded one of her seven kills to give San Jose State the 25-14 victory.
The lead changed just one time in the fourth set, and the two teams were tied at 21-21. Consecutive kills by Freeman and Miraldi, an attack error by CS Bakersfield and a final kill by Amian gave San Jose State the final set and the match, 25-22.
Sarah Norman led CS Bakersfield (11-10) with 15 kills and hit .361 for the match. Rosemary Stribling added 12 kills, while Alysia Baker had 11 kills. Mystie McNaughton had 21 digs, while Lindsay Toone added 10 digs.
San Jose State improves to 9-11 on the season and hosts #18 Santa Clara Tuesday night in a non-conference match at Spartan Gym. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
