Logan, Utah-Mary Alice O'Reilly led the Spartan volleyball team with 10 kills as San Jose State fell at conference leader Utah State, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) Saturday night in a Western Athletic Conference match.
O'Reilly was the only Spartan in double-figure kills at 10. She also led the team in blocks with three. She hit .269 in the match with 26 attempts and just three errors.
Krista Miller was the only other Spartan hitter to be above .200 hitting as she hit .227 with seven kills on 22 attempts and just two errors. Miller added a team-best 12 digs and two block assists in the match.
San Jose State hit just .039 in the three-set match and was outblocked 15.5-5.0. Utah State hit .290 with only 12 errors in 100 attempts and 41 kills.
"We did not play as well as we can, especially offensively," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "It is tough to be successful when key hitters have negative numbers. Utah State is a good team, especially blocking, but we did not take care of things on our side of the court.
"Our hitters have to get back into rhythm offensively, be smarter at the net and step up for us. We passed well enough but could not utilize our middle tonight like we want."
San Jose State is now 8-11 overall and 4-5 in the WAC. The Spartans return home for Monday Night Volleyball with Texas State. Match starts at 7 p.m. this Monday at Spartan Gym.
