Ruston, La.-With its second-best hitting match of the year, the San Jose State volleyball team went to Louisiana Tech and came away with a 25-19, 25-11, 25-14 win Thursday night in a Western Athletic Conference match.
The Spartans hit .354 for the match with 51 kills on 113 attempts and just 11 hitting errors. The team had just one hitting error in the second set as they recorded 12 kills on 27 attempts.
Alex Akana led all Spartan hitters with a .750 hitting percentage. She had 10 kills on 12 attempts and just one error. Kylie Miraldi hit .474 with 11 kills in 19 attempts and two errors. Savanah Leaf led the team with 14 kills and hit .314 for the match with 35 attempts and three hitting errors.
Hanah Blume led the team with 12 digs and added five kills. Caitlin Andrade recorded 36 assists, six digs and two block assists. Krista Miller had seven kills and eight digs, while Kiely Pieper contributed 11 digs and a team-best two service aces. Sarah Griest had two kills, while Asia Casino had two assists.
"We took care of our side of the net tonight in the win," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "We concentrated on taking care of the little things and staying mentally in tune with what is happening on our side of the match. Overall we did a very nice job tonight and stayed composed and focused in our road match."
The Spartans trailed only once during the match. The team trailed 3-2 after a Lady Techster service ace but then tied the score at 3-3 and took the lead for good on back-to-back hitting errors.
