San Jose-Taylor Japhet led the Spartans with six kills, but San Jose State fell to New Mexico State, 25-13, 25-14, 25-20, in a Western Athletic Conference match at Spartan Gym.
Japhet hit .385 with six kills on 13 attempts and just one hitting error. Hanah Blume and Alex Akana each recorded five kills in the match. Blume, Akana, Sarah McAtee and Kylie Miraldi each had two block assists.
Katie Turner and Hanah Blume each had six digs to lead the Spartans. Caitlin Andrade added 22 assists and four digs, while Asia Casino had four digs and a service ace.
"Taylor did a nice job for us coming off the bench and spurred a little run for us," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "But our effort to execute and battle was not there tonight. We need to have better energy and sacrifice for better results, especially in October when everyone knows everyone else. We are home for most of the rest of the month and need to advantage of that."
San Jose State returns to Spartan Gym this Saturday for a WAC match against Louisiana Tech starting at 7 p.m.
