Volleyball Falls to New Mexico State

San JoseKelly Crow and Brianna Amian each had nine kills for the San Jose State volleyball team, but the Spartans fell to New Mexico State, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21, Thursday evening at Spartan Gym.

Crow recorded her nine kills on 34 attempts and added two digs and a service ace.  Amian had her nine on 27 attempts and contributed four digs and two service aces. 

In the middle, Colleen Burke hit .600 with seven kills on 10 attempts and only one error.  She added a block, an ace and a dig.  Nia Freeman had a team-best three blocks, one solo and two assists to go with two digs and a kill.  Kylie Miraldi played in all three sets and started the third in the middle.  She had two kills in three attempts and added a dig and a block assist.

“Our middles played a good match for us tonight,” said San Jose State head coach Oscar Crespo.  “Colleen had a nice offensive night.  Nia played a very team-oriented match and adjusted her game when she moved to the right side in the third set.  Kylie did a good job for us even though she had only two kills.”

Emily Burke had 18 assists, three digs, an ace, one kill and one block in the match.  Kristal Tsukano led the team with six digs and added three assists.  Niki Clement recorded two kills, two digs and a block.  Brittany Collet came into the match in the second set and had four assist, one ace and a dig.  Courtney Zellmer played in the back row and had a dig, while Thao Pham recorded an assist.

San Jose State returns home this Saturday to face Louisiana Tech.  First serve is set for 7 p.m., at Spartan Gym.
