Ruston, La.-Samantha O'Connell and Hanah Blume led the Spartan hitting attack Saturday night as the San Jose State volleyball team swept Louisiana Tech 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) in a Western Athletic Conference match.
O'Connell led all hitters with 12 kills, while Blume hit .417 for the match with 10 kills on 24 attempts and no hitting errors. Mary Alice O'Reilly added eight kills in the win.
Krista Miller added four kills, 11 digs and three block assists, while Alex Akana led the team with five block assists. Kiely Pieper had a team-best 13 digs, while Michaela Leonard had 27 assists and seven digs.
The Spartans controlled the first set, never giving up the lead in the 25-17 win. In set two, Louisiana Tech opened up a 3-0 lead, but the Spartans fought back to tie the set at 4-4 and took the lead for good on a Leonard service ace. The team won the set 25-20.
The third set featured four lead changes and seven tied scores before San Jose State took control at 25-21. The team took the lead for good at 15-14 on a Lady Techster serving error.
"We played well for the second match of our road trip," said Spartan head coach Oscar Crespo. "We played as a team tonight, were pretty composed and took it one point at a time."
San Jose State evened its WAC record to 3-3 with the win and 7-9 on the season. The Spartans return home next week for two match against Denver on Thursday (10/4) and New Mexico State on Saturday (10/6).
